The trouble with poetry is it's often written to the sound of a drum only the poet may hear; nonetheless, blessed are those poets who always manage to find unshakeable pleasure in their own works.

About This Quote

When we hear poetry, we often think about the writer’s words and how they make us feel. However, we don’t often consider the process through which the words come to be. Poetry is not just a product of the writer’s mind, it is a product of their struggle. They may struggle to find that sound that can hold their voice in their head, then to find the words that fit into that space and then finally to experience the emotion when their passions are put to paper.

They may struggle with the rhythms of poetry and the cadences of prose until they get it just right. When they finally do, their work becomes timeless and becomes something more than just words on paper. It becomes a piece of themselves.
